Angels are looking for starting pitching. Marlins are looking for more offense. Trumbo is young and has hit some bombs in his young career. Would be a solid complement to Giancarlo Stanton and would upgrade our power to where we need it.

    Mark Trumbo’s stats:

Here’s an article on Fish Stripes playing down the Bourjos acquisition possibility. Seems to be paving the way for a Trumbo expectation.

It seems that Ricky’s potential for being dealt are slim. His price tag is $11.5M and he is not quite worth that based on his production from last year. He could, however, show that he is worth that on a contender and I think a move to Cali to a team that is going to contend would make him an extremely valuable player. He would be inclined to perform as an audition, as he is in his last contracted season.

“The Angels are looking for an established starting pitcher. Miami’s Ricky Nolasco is set to make $11.5 million in the final year of his contract.

But the chances of the Marlins trading Nolasco before the start of Spring Training are slim. Still, there is growing speculation that the right-hander could be on the move close to the July Trade Deadline if Miami is not in contention.”

Apparently Jayson Stark is reporting that the Marlins and Angels are talking about Trumbo for Nolasco:

I can’t find a link to Stark. Only references to his mentioning.

Looks like this idea has teeth:

“Adding a power bat has been atop Miami’s offseason wish list. Certainly, Trumbo would fill the void.

There is speculation that the Marlins have been in contact with the Angels for Trumbo, and it is true. Miami definitely has interest. The big question is whether the Angels can be tempted to move the young slugger. Trumbo may end up starting in right field for Los Angeles.

But if the Marlins did pull off a deal, matching Trumbo with Stanton would give them a formidable middle of the lineup.

Nolasco’s name has come up in a possible scenario for Trumbo. Most likely it would take more than just Nolasco.

What’s working in the Marlins’ favor now with any possible trade scenario is the fact their farm system is considerably stronger with the recent trades the team has made. There is more pitching depth now, and perhaps a young arm could be dangled to complete a deal.”

Here’s another reference to the Marlins having interest in Trumbo:

It really is a question of what the Angels think about Vernon Wells. They may go with an OF of Hamilton, Bourjos, and Trout. They may be thinking of keeping Trumbo as their DH/OF. If they can find a deal for Wells, they probably take it which means Trumbo would not be dealt depending on what they get in return.

The question is, what offers do they have out there and is Nolasco among the best options?

Seems the Morales/Vargas deal pretty much killed the chances for a possible Nolasco/Trumbo deal. No reason to move Trumbo at this point just to acquire Nolasco. Juan Rodriguez of Sun-Sentinel echoed this sentiment via Twitter today, answering our question:
