Fredi Gonzalez Canned

In the backdrop of the latest marketing sensation, the vuvuzela give out, comes even more noise from the Fish - Fredi Gonzalez is out as manager in the middle of his 4th season. But the brass didn't end there, they also let Carlos Tosca and hitting "coach" Jim Presley go (hey MarlinAddict, you happy about that?). Why now in midseason? A quote from Jeffrey Loria, according to the Palm Beach … [Read more...]

Jorge Sosa Signed for AAA New Orleans

Sosa, who had some success back in 2005 with the Braves, was signed to a minor league contract with the Fish the Sun-Sentinel is reporting. Sosa was 13-3 with a 2.55 ERA back with the Braves, but bounced around shortly thereafter with little consistency. Someone to keep an eye on, but most likely will serve in a relief role if he does earn a call up. … [Read more...]

Brad Penny’s Suitors Down to Three

Looks like there are three teams out there vying for Brad Penny's services to end the season. All three teams are trying to make a push for the postseason - but one of them is pretty much locked in there. The New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants are elbowing with the Marlins for Penny. The question is, what is Penny looking for? If it is an assured appearance in the postseason, he … [Read more...]

Brad Penny Is a Free Man; Might He Return to the Marlins?

In order to make way for Billy Wagner, the Boston Red Sox released Brad Penny. Yes, I know - I was the guy who was rooting for the Marlins to real in Smoltz, too. Didn't happen. But with the Marlins itching to find consistency in their rotation, and really on the brink of contention for the post season, Penny may be a good gamble. The Marlins are players - just the piece has to fit. Smoltz would … [Read more...]

Marlins Start With Win; Sean West Recalled

The Marlins (that's right, with all the vowels back in place) started off their series with the Phillies with a win. Very important because those three games they lost to the Nationals damaged their chances in the standings, but with every win against Philly the Marlins gain a game. Now at 56-53, the Marlins are at 6 games in back of the Phillies. Don't get delusional just yet - the Marlins … [Read more...]

Gaby Sanchez Finally Called Up

gaby_sanchez

It's not what you think - or so Fredi Gonzalez would have us all believe. This isn't a white flag being waived over the Emilio Bonifacio project. This is simply a move to get Gaby Sanchez a look at the big league level. Meanwhile, Andrew Miller was optioned to AAA New Orleans to work on his mechanics (got to love the kid, but he just looks mentally weak out there). Just look at what Fredi … [Read more...]

Marlins Adding Scott Williamson; Increase Veteran Depth in Bullpen

Looks like the push for the playoffs is on as the Marlins are continuing to make minor moves to shore up their bullpen depth with some noted veterans. This past Sunday, they added Brendan Donnelly, who pitched for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim back in their heyday (along with ex-Marlin Kevin Gregg) in a stacked bullpen that got them to the World Series. The Marlins also added Luis Ayala to … [Read more...]

Double J Astounds Yankees

Josh Johnson matched AJ Burnett pitch for pitch tonight in what shaped up to be an old-fashioned pitching duel. Of course, the story line was AJ returns to Miami (with Joe Girardi, of course) to face his former team. It is quite obvious that AJ never liked the front office here - much like his current manager - yet, that is beside the point. JJ got the win while only allowing run run in 7 … [Read more...]

How Long Until Gaby Sanchez Arrives at Thirdbase?

Gaby Sanchez left the University of Miami as a firstbaseman, but now is facing his professional future at another position: thirdbase. Every beat writer has been latching on to this story and its possibility, but our own MarlinAddict kind of put the observation out there first. Since he came back from injury, Gaby Sanchez has been playing third base and continuing to hit. Right now against … [Read more...]

Gaby Sanchez at 3B?

Looking over the box scores of recent nights since his return, our own MarlinAddict noticed that something unusual is going on with Gaby Sanchez - he's playing 3B. Not only does he have a 9 game hitting streak going (interrupted by his injury) but perhaps he's being groomed to come up as a 3B. Jorge Cantu is currently manning 1B but how much can he actually factor into the long term plans for … [Read more...]
