Manny Ramirez a Marlin?

According to SI.com, our very own low-budget Marlins may have actually contacted the Sox about disgruntled superstar Manny Ramirez.  Now pick your jaw up off the floor and keep reading... Apparently the deal would be Hermida plus wayward prospect and Josh Hamilton protege Jeff Allison for Manny (sorry about the Josh Hamilton/drug use reference, that was kinda low... but still funny).  … [Read more...]

Dutchmaster Smokes Atlanta

In what was widely assumed to be a quick cup of coffee to fill in for Andrew Miller, Rick Vandenhurk submitted the finest start of his career: five no-hit innings against the Braves.  Unfortunately, Fredi wasn't able to leave him in the game to finish what he started because of his strict pitch count, but the bullpen turned in a stellar performance for themselves, allowing only one hit to … [Read more...]

Statement Series

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khmqDEz6TRk&feature=related So sorry for the lame music, but this vintage '80s tune is a perfect theme song for how these Marlins are playing right now.  Who dey? Who dey? Who dey think gonna beat them Marlins!?!?!  Woo Hoo!  I don't know why I found it neccessary to revive a classic Cincinnati Bengals chant, but it certainly fits.  Two out of three … [Read more...]

Uggla Sets All Star Game Record!

... with 3 errors in the game.  And he didn't even start.  AND he went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts, including one with the bases loaded.  Oy vey.  Thats OK Dan, we still love ya over here at Marlinsnation.com On the bright side, Hanley did a pretty good job representing the Marlins at the plate with 2 singles, although he did commit an error of his own.  Thats four errors for the Marlins in … [Read more...]

THIS JUST IN…

Mystery solved!  Norm Braman actually Marvin "Grandpa" Marsh from South Park! Hehehehehehe... Anyway, congrats to Dan Uggla for his strong showing at last night's Home Run Derby!  Although he did not advance to the second round, 6 homers is very respectable, especially considering he was leading off and that Yankee Stadium isn't exactly friendly to right handed batters.  … [Read more...]

HRam and Uggla Named to NL All Star Team

Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla will represent the Florida Marlins at the 2008 All Star Game.  Hanley became the second Marlin ever after Gary Sheffield in 1993 to be voted in by the fans as a starter.  Dan Uggla was selected by his peers as a reserve.  Congrats to both of these guys, and we at Marlinsnation.com wish them all the best as they bring the teal to Yankee Stadium. For Danny Uggla, … [Read more...]

Hanley Ramirez Named NL Player of the Month for June

Atta boy Hanley!!!  A big Marlinsnation.com congrats to Hanley Ramirez for becoming the first Marlin to win this award since Jeff Conine in 1995.  Voting for the All Star Game ended last night, so don't worry about going to mlb.com to give him a couple of extra votes.  Fortunately, Hanley was maintaining his lead over Miguel Tejada, so unless Houston fans stuffed enough ballots at the end, we … [Read more...]

Power Rankings – Halfway Point

Has it been 81 games already? It sure seems like the season flies by when your team performes better than everyone alive expected. This has been one of the most entertaining first halfs I have ever watched. 1. Tampa Bay Rays: Ladies and Gentlemen, your new King of the Hill. They are in top form right now, so I have to give them some respect, even if this is a trendy pick. Here is a scary … [Read more...]

THE RETURN OF THE HAMMER

Josh Willingham has officially returned from the DL. The Hammer pounded down upon the Gnats twice tonight, including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the 10th. That is the second walk off win for the Fish in as many days, and now the Marlins find themselves a half game back of idle Philadelphia for first place in the NL East. Hammer's smashing return couldn't have been timed any better for … [Read more...]
