Marlins Call Up Koronka to Open 3-Game Series with Brewers

The Marlins announced Sunday that left-handed pitcher would be called up to face lefty, Manny Parra in the opening game against the Brewers, after right-handed pitcher left the game during the 5th inning against the Braves on May 7th because of some sort of pain he felt in his right shoulder, only to find out that he would be placed on DL.84658753DB009_FLORIDA_MARLI

Sanchez, after leaving the game midway against the Braves, will miss up to two months because of a sprained right shoulder. So far, Sanchez had been 1-4 this season with an ERA of 5.79.

After contemplating many days on what they were going to do, the Marlins decided to call up a pitcher. Koronka fit that spot. Unfortunately, in order to do this they had to send down center fielder Cameron Maybin to the minors to make the team complete.

At the age of 28, Koronka, an ex-Chicago Cub and Texas Ranger, hasn’t ever pitched against the Brewers and in the Majors since 2007. Koronka, coming off back-to-back scoreless five-inning starts for New Orleans, his minor league team, has brought with him a 2-1 record with around an ERA of 3.00 in his last 10 appearances for the Zephyrs.

The Marlins, in 2nd place, come into the series a ½ game back of the red hot Mets, who have won 7 of their last 8 games. On the other hand, the Brewers are standing close to the top of the N.L. Central only 2 games back of the Chicago Cubs.
