Adam Conley, a 2nd round pick out of Washington State for the Marlins in 2011, made a spot start for the injured Mat Latos yesterday. He had a solid performance while also watching the Marlins’ bats come alive and helping lock down his first ever MLB win.
Conley pitched 5 IP, racked up 2 Ks and 2 BBs while giving up 5 Hs and 2 ERs.
A solid line for the lanky lefty. He was able to mix his pitches up just enough to keep the Reds’ bats at bay only to see the Marlins’ bats awaken like thunder with a 21 hit performance.
The Marlins, though, had other plans for Conley. With Dee Gordon getting injured yesterday (dislocated thumb), the Fish wanted to bring up another infield glove to help in his absence (Donovan Solano). This means that Conley will get more starts in the PCL with NOLA.
That said, it may not be long until Conley is back. There are rumors that the Marlins may be looking to trade away some of their starters who are destined for free agency after the season like Latos and Dan Haren.
