Hitting .391 (9/23) with three homers, and 7 RBIs in 6 games to start June will get you some attention. That is why Matt Juengel has been named the Southern League Player of the Week, according to Roger Hoover over at SunsRadio.com.
Juengel is quickly becoming a solid prospect for the Fish. This is his first season at AA, after having been drafted in the 24th round out of Texas A&M back in 2012. For s system that is a bit bare after trades to shore up spots at the big league level, this couldn’t happen at a better time.
Over his last 10 games, Juengel is hitting .333 with 5 home runs (in 39 ABs).
Keep an eye on his bat as he continues to help the defending Southern League champs defend their title. He may get a call up to AAA NOLA but usually the Marlins like to keep that team in use for veteran players. If Juengel becomes a viable prospect, he could make the jump from AA to the bigs if there is a need. Stay tuned!
