In his latest commercial, Bryce Harper is shown soaked in Gatorade hitting a pitch out of the park against a generic Marlins pitcher (who is also soaked in Gatorade). The ball literally transforms into a screaming Bryce Harper as it travels out of the park.
Maybe that scream was Harper after he destroyed his thumb sliding into third base?
The Nationals are reporting that Harper will be missing time until July with his thumb injury. Surgery is needed, as is rest. Perhaps this will be a blessing in disguise for Harper who seems to be in a funk this season.
That said, how will this injury affect the 11-14 Marlins, who have not played their best baseball at all yet? The Marlins have run into a hot Braves team, who gumped their way into 2 wins against the Marlins, and then into a hot Mets team who are playing out of their minds right now also. The Fish also had some trouble with the Nationals. And the Phillies…
Considering things, they are not nearly as far off as they were last season. Instead of the Fish suffering bad breaks, they are staying healthy and getting amazing numbers from Giancarlo Stanton, who is benefitting immensely from the presence of Casey McGehee and Garrett Jones.
Regardless of what injuries find their way onto other rosters, the Marlins still have to play better baseball. Perhaps their best is in front of them as this young team begins to turn the corner and find a better way to meet the competitive challenge they face every night.
