Lots of people have been salivating over the idea of a potential trade of Yasiel Puig for Giancarlo Stanton. None other than Peter Gammons joined the fray:
Matt Vasgerian's idea really makes sense:Dodgers offer Yasiel Puig and anyone but Kershaw for Giancarlo Stanton. Puig=tix, Stanton=WS

Not to say it isn’t a bit tantalizing, either. Another exciting, Cuban refugee landing in Miami to play baseball – and the other candidate for ROY in the NL to boot – would be hard for any Miamian to make excuses for not going to games. And let’s face it, as much as the Marlins need Stanton, he doesn’t seem to be in love with returning the favor.
All of this could be fixed with a long term deal inked by Stanton though and that just may happen, as crazy as it may seem. That said, one of the huge values to Stanton is the fact that his contract protects whatever team has him from big time free agency money in 2016.
Puig on the other hand is locked into a 7 year, $42M deal. If his rookie campaign is any indication, he is going to be well-worth the money, too.
Still, it is only speculation at this point. There is virtually no indication that this deal would happen at all – Jeffrey Loria is more inclined to not spend money unless he absolutely has to. Puig would make a lot of sense here in Miami manning RF, too – his defense and hard-nosed play would electrify Little Havana and match really well with Jose Fernandez’s personality. The Fish would get an instant makeover, too. Stanton would join the other ex-Marlins in LA (hey there, Hanley, Ricky, and Josh!) and would get a shot at leading his southern Cal roots back to the playoffs.
But this is what happens when there are no games. People start foaming at the mouth over scenarios. Don’t buy into it. Besides, old T-Hutt would be hating life.
