This was posted a few days ago over at the Marlins beloved Facebook page – a picture of Juan Pierre in a Marlins uniform and newly acquired Adeiny Hechavarria donning the home whites. Both players stopped by the new digs for the Marlins to take a tour and pose for some photo ops in their new home. Take a gander:
Juan Pierre makes a return to the Marlins to play LF and looks to build on his “renaissance” from last season where he hit .307 and stole 37 bases. He played for the Marlins from 2003, helping the Fish win their 2nd franchise championship, until 2005 when he was traded to the Chicago Cubs.
Adeiny Hechavarria comes over as a highly touted defensive shortstop from the Blue Jays system. A former Cuban player, he should fit right in as a Miami Marlin and looks to establish himself defensively this season. His offensive production is speculative at this point, but expectations are for him to hit around .270 with a strong ability to run and steal bases.
Both players will have to contribute in order for the Marlins, facing low expectations from a frustrated fan base, to get back to their winning ways. Look for both players to figure prominently in the defensive success and speed attack for the 2013 Marlins.
