The Marlins had a brief test run in their new digs against a franchise they hope to one day emulate, the New York Yankees. Let’s get the baseball out of the way first – the Marlins lost two straight, dropping the second of a friendly series in front of the home crowd in games that won’t count except for the fact that where they were played.
The Marlins had Carlos Zambrano on the mound and watched as Alex Rodriguez, and Joe Girardi, made a bit of a homecoming to take the game 5-2. Rodriguez did his damage with the bat and one can’t help but wonder what old Joe is thinking of his former bosses now that they have finally gotten their new home.
So far, the debut belongs to the venue – the Marlins much-ballyhooed stadium is turning heads in many good ways so far. The team has yet to come together, but there are 162 games well in front of this team and plenty of time to enjoy it unfolding over the course of the season. In fact, I will be there tomorrow night when the Fish debut, officially, their new home against the St. Louis Cardinals. Stay tuned for that.
