Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Javier Vazquez is intrigued by the idea of pitching in South Florida next season.
There are several reasons why this makes sense – Vazquez would be closer to his native Puerto Rico and he also already is on familiar terms with skipper Edwin Rodriguez who himself is a native of Puerto Rico, too. Vazquez also got his start in the Expos organization – which current Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria had an interest in and the current Marlins front office staff managed.
The Marlins would have to make good work of things though. Vazquez already has several lucrative offers as teams are willing to overpay to get his services. For the Marlins, which seemingly have a home court advantage, they would have to be able to pony up a competitive deal. Another positive sign is that Vazquez is represented by the same group that represents John Buck, whom the Marlins just signed to a 3 year $18M deal.
