Looks like the latest from Marlins camp on the injury front is that Henderson Alvarez should be back sooner than expected. Which is good for the Marlins but bad for Jacob Turner fans.
Manny Navarro over at the Miami Herald summed it up:
Henderson Alvarez said the MRI performed on his right shoulder Friday showed nothing more than inflammation, and he is hoping to be back on the mound when he’s scheduled to come off the 15-day disabled list during the team’s next homestand.
The injury started to crop up after his start against Atlanta, but the Marlins monitored it and he seemed fine. It would seem his awkward slide against the Nationals was what triggered the aggravation as he tumbled into second base.
If the Marlins are going to make a run at the playoffs, they will need to be healthy and hitting their stride. With Alvarez, the Marlins have their staff ace ready to take the mound every 5th day, which is already thinned out with the Jose Fernandez injury.
In the interim, Jacob Turner, who had been pitching solidly of late, will man his spot in the rotation.
