This is what baseball can be – a dramatic culmination built on seemingly endless tension. This is why baseball is, arguably, the perfect game because it incorporates individual accomplishment with the team concept. Individuals square off at the plate only to let the team decide how it will react. That being the case, the Rockies must have felt like they were hi-jacked last night here in Miami.
There were 5 lead changes throughout the night, the last one being Donnie Murphy’s walk off which got a lot of airplay today on the sports highlight reels. The Marlins have won 3 straight and are looking to keep the streak going. The question is, can Nate Robertson pitch well enough to keep this Rockies team off balance? The 33 year old will square off with Jeff Francis as the Marlins look to grab the series win tonight.
It has been a pretty solid run so far for the Marlins and their new skipper. Manager Edwin Rodgriguez is playing without Chris Coghlan, opting instead for Emilio Bonifacio in LF to help the Marlins defensively. Coghlan’s bat could be a huge lift but Rodriguez is taking a precautionary measure since the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year strained his back.Yet, Rodriguez continues to make good moves and getting the right mix to help his team climb back up the NL East ladder. Standing at 45-47, the Marlins would have to win a lot of games to get to 90 wins (45-25), but they are 8-6 so far for the month of July.
