There are several sources reporting that the Marlins are interviewing Bobby Valentine today, but the USA Today reports that there is a denial by Valentine that he will be the next manager. Must be in regards to it being a done deal because Tim Reynolds of the AP is reporting there is an interview with Valentine scheduled, but that other interviews are still slated. In fact, former third base coach Bo Porter is being interviewed by telephone.
Joe Capozzi, of the Palm Beach Post, is reporting that Valentine is indeed the frontrunner, and might even take over by this weekend. Interim manager Edwin Rodriguez, of course, would like to manage the Marlins for the next few games – since they are making a trip to Puerto Rico to take on the Mets. Interesting that Rodriguez could be coaching the Marlins in his native Puerto Rico or that Valentine could be taking over just in time to manage against his former team.
