July Pitcher of the Month

As everyone knows, I am a big Kyle Kaminska fan. The kid is all of 19 years old and was a 27th round pick, yet still started 2008…his second professional year…at high A Jupiter in the Florida State League. And granted, while it wasn’t pretty he showed alot of promise in his first start.

And the struggles continued after a trip back to Greensboro. Let’s not call it a demotion, so much as getting back to the level he should of been at.  May and June were not at all kind to Kaminska, as he compiled a 5-4 record in 10 games(9 starts), with a 7.47 ERA and 1.74 WHIP.

But, enter July. Kaminska has pitched like a man on a mission.  The 0-1 record in 5 starts might not seem impressive, but you have to look beyond the record: 2.99 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.9 K/9, and a 30/2 K/BB ratio. Yes, 30/2. That dwarfs his May/June 41/11 K/BB ratio and he added on 2 K/9 over his previous 2 month totals as well.

I have high hopes for Kaminska, and if he can keep producing like he has in July,  a return to Jupiter wouldn’t shock this person at all. But either way, I am proud to present my own personal Marlins Minor League Pitcher of the Month Award to RHP Kyle Kaminska of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Keep up the good work.
