THE RETURN OF THE HAMMER

Josh Willingham has officially returned from the DL. The Hammer pounded down upon the Gnats twice tonight, including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the 10th. That is the second walk off win for the Fish in as many days, and now the Marlins find themselves a half game back of idle Philadelphia for first place in the NL East. Hammer's smashing return couldn't have been timed any better for … [Read more...]

Introducing Isaac Galloway

By: Ranger Periera The Marlins 8th round pick(238th overall) said he would sign no matter what if taken in the first two rounds of 2008’s MLB draft, so taking him in the 8th round was a little bit risky for the Marlins. With a commitment to San Diego State and the fact that he has shown 5 tool potential gave Galloway, a Rancho Cucamonga, CA native, quite a bit of leverage. But that didn’t … [Read more...]

The 2008 First Half Homey Awards!

It's that time of year again, or first time ever as I have never done this before. Lucky you. It is the time where I look at who has done the best for us, as a farm system, over the first half of the season. Players traded for or signed as minor league free agents need not apply. Strictly players drafted by and/or signed internationally by everyones favorite marine themed baseball team. The … [Read more...]

Marlins Sign Skipworth, Get a Glimpse at Future

Newly signed draft pick Kyle Skipworth got more than he bargained for, but would probably take none of it back. Fresh out of high school, Skipworth was selected 6th overall and signed a $2.3 million dollar contract. Skipping college never looked so bright. Yet here he was, in sunny south Florida to watch his new team take on the team from across the state, the Rays, and taking BP. Hitting shots … [Read more...]

Lindstrom Down, De La Cruz Up

Matt Lindstrom was optioned to AAA Albuquerque, the same fate that Taylor Tankersley had endured earlier in the season. It seems to be paying off for the Tank, and the Marlins brass hopes it will allow Lindstrom to get his mechanics and control back together again. He was, after all, looking like a closer in the making just a few weeks ago. Being recalled in his place is Eulogio De La Cruz. … [Read more...]

Willingham’s Back is Back; Rabelo Sent Down

His back is baaaaackk! Josh Willingham, who has been out for about two months, has been recalled from his rehab stint. He is available to play and seems to be healthy and ready to go. Willingham hit just .231 in his rehab stint in Jupiter, but it was just to get his timing back. In the meantime, Mike Rabelo, who blundered badly by failing to tag a runner in a loss to Oakland, was sent to AAA … [Read more...]

Braman Losing Lawsuit

The Miami Herald is reporting that auto dealer Norman Braman had a portion of his lawsuit tossed out of court by a circuit court judge which was seeking to undermine a $3 billion plan to rebuild portions of downtown Miami. Part of the plan includes funding for the new Marlins stadium, to be built on the site of the old Orange Bowl. We will have more details and analysis soon - so stay tuned. … [Read more...]

Marlins Will Be Buyers

Expect the Marlins to be buyers this season before the July 31st trade deadline. Just don't expect them to make any big moves. Jayson Stark even speculates that the Marlins will be buyers. For anyone at BSPN to speculate as such means it is bordering on the obvious and predictable - so you can bank on that. But you can't bank on the Marlins trading prospects away for a big name. Won't happen. … [Read more...]

Hank Steinbrenner is a Sore Loser: A Commentary by Nolesmarlins

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/17/sports/baseball/17base.html?_r=1&oref=slogin If you haven't already heard, Hank Steinbrenner, the big cheese in charge of the Yankees, has placed the blame for Chien Ming Wang's foot injury on the National League's lack of a DH rule.  In his comments, Steinbrenner claims that the NL needs to "grow up" and "join the 21st Century".  Grow up?!  Has he … [Read more...]

Safeco Field Providing Insight for New Marlins Ballpark?

Right now the Marlins are in Seattle and I can't help but think about how much they are watching the stands as they are watching the action on the field. The front office staff, that is. The Marlins have begun their plans to build a new ballpark on the site of the old Orange Bowl - in fact all that stands now is the scoreboard. In designing their new park, they have taken feedback from fans to … [Read more...]
